Da Vinci used this method to create very 3-D images. In this art-making experience, we will use this “reverse” method to bring about high and low-contrast subject matter. A variety of colors of charcoal and drawing tools will be provided along with still lives.

This full-day workshop held from 10:00am-3:00pm is meant to get you in the art-making groove and develop new approaches to seeing and creating artwork. Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us. All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. A break for lunch and a relaxed discussion will occur at midday. Please bring your own bagged lunch or feel free to visit one of the restaurants close by on our provided list.

Modern Western artists have been inspired by the arts of Asia for well over 150 years. We will be exploring the aesthetic and process of brush painting, flower arranging, and designing a kimono. Paintings of our flower arrangements and our kimonos will round out this studio. Robin Douglas and Lisa Curry will be instructing. All materials will be provided along with light snacks.

In this series, we look at the role the museum has in bringing art and community together to be champions of culture.
