First Friday Art Walk: Focus On Fokos
Downtown Oceanside comes alive during First Friday Art Walk with art, performances, music, poetry, activities, food, and fun for all ages at a variety of venues, and it all starts at OMA with free admission. After touring the exhibition David Fokos: The Book Pages Project with the artist as a guide, pay homage to books—not today’s digital ebooks, but real books with covers, pulpy paper, yellowing pages, and dog-eared corners. Then create a work of art honoring the classic book form with teaching artist Heather Peters.
Artist David Fokos will lead tours of his exhibition starting at 5:30pm and again at 6:30pm. Art projects will be available 5:00–8:00pm.
Lecture: Art Handling And Transportation
Guest lecturer and professional preparator Drei Keil will demonstrate how to properly prepare artwork for display in a gallery, and how to wrap artwork to keep it safe during transportation.
Lecture: Make A Living Selling Art
Guest lecturers Catherine Newhart and Janet Lee will explore how to effectively use various revenue streams, primarily focusing on commissions, to make a steady income from artistic practice.
Life Drawing
Artists will work from a combination of 5 to 40 minute poses during this non-instructed session. Live model, table, and chairs are provided. Artists to bring their own drawing materials.Price is $12 for members, $15 for visitors, payable in cash at the door.

Bring the kids to get a taste of what’s planned for Summer Art Camps. Sample art projects, meet our new education director, and explore the exhibitions for free. Plus, register for one or more weeks of camp during this special event and save $50 on each session. Drawing Class Series
Combine the Beginning, Intermediate, and Experienced Observational Drawing classes (see individual descriptions under May 8, 15 and 22 respectively) and save on registration.
Beginning Drawing
No experience necessary as Eustacia Riley introduces fundamental principles of drawing from direct observation. Pencil and marker will be used to explore line and contour of simple objects. Register for the series and save.
Intermediate Mixed Media
Using a photo as the departure point, Eustacia Riley will guide the class through an expressive exercise using collage and art materials to create an abstract or figurative contrast of texture, tone, and shape. Participants can bring their own photographs or source from supplied materials. Some art experience recommended.
