3+3 features the recent work of three painters and three sculptors from San Diego County who have reputations for introducing nationwide audiences to provocative art. Painters Alexia Markarian, Nancy Kittredge and Philip Kirkland join sculptors James Renner, Anne Mudge and Robin Bright to present a diversity of styles in two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. In selecting the artists for 3+3, curator Robert Perine states, "It is, of course, futile to compare one artist's work with another, yet, I felt that these artists, who eschew insider movements and manifestos, (and have varied educational backgrounds), offer viewers both contrast and compatibility. The common denominator is the richness of the work, both in craft and imagination, which, in the realms of art, bodes well for endurance.”

OMA has a serious commitment to developing an appreciation of the art and artists of the San Diego region," says Executive Director Skip Pahl. He notes that nine of the museum's last twelve exhibitions have featured the work of San Diego artists. In the brochure for this exhibition, Skip discusses the long range plan of the museum to focus its permanent collection on the art of the region.
