Plein Air Festival Awards Celebration

Celebrate the culmination of our inaugural festival with fellow artists and art lovers. Mingle over refreshments, view and bid on paintings selected for the 2021 Plein Air Festival Juried Exhibition, and purchase your own original work of art at the Plein Air Art Mart. Join us as we recognize the outstanding paintings in various categories and award the winning prizes, including Best In Show judged by Jean Stern. As we put a stamp on a week of outstanding creativity, gather with old and new friends alike to raise a glass to Oceanside’s first ever Plein Air Festival. Cash bar available, all Awards Celebration attendees will receive one complimentary drink ticket.

Plein Air Festival artists attend free and will be on a list at the event check-in station.


Plein Air Art Mart

Artwork submitted for jurying and judging but not selected for the exhibition will be part of a one-day sale. Taking place directly behind the museum, you can find the next gem for your collection at pricing accessible to any level of collector, or simply browse the hundreds of artistic interpretations of Southern California’s natural beauty and built environment created over the course of the preceding week. The sale will be open both before and after the Plein Air Festival Awards Celebration taking place just around the corner at OMA, making it an exciting way to start or end your day of celebrating art in the open air. 



Admission to the Plein Air Art Mart is free and does not require reservations.

Coffee And Conversation With OMA Artist Alliance

Join Artist Alliance with a cup of coffee and enjoy some conversation with fellow artists online. Sculptors, painters, photographers, and artists of all disciplines are welcome.

Plein Air Paint Out At Buccaneer Beach

Open to artists at any level, join OMA’s Artist Alliance for this non-instructed opportunity to paint en plein air with peers at Buccaneer Beach in Oceanside. Tune into Coffee and Conversation after to share your work with Artist Alliance members over a cup of coffee until 2:00pm.

First Friday Art Walk: Music At The Museum With Whitney Shay

Explore the exhibitions for free starting at 5:00pm and stay for the free concert as Oceanside’s First Friday Art Walk extends into the night with the electric energy and soulful style of four-time San Diego Music Award winner Whitney Shay. The music starts and cash bar opens at 6:30pm.

Two-Day Workshop: Contemporary Pop Art Painting

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23 AND 25

Join Robin Douglas for a deep dive into the exciting world of Pop Art by exploring popular food and art. Draw inspiration from artists such as Andy Warhol, Audrey Flack and Tom Wesselmann, as well as Taylor Chapin: Consumption Capital currently on display at OMA, to create your own twist on eye-catching food labels and designs from popular culture. All supplies for your original artwork will be provided.

Taste of Art: Rorschach Print Painting à la Andy Warhol

Create a unique image for the world to decipher based on the classic Andy Warhol series inspired by Hermann Rorschach’s amorphous ink blots. Follow Warhol’s process of painting one side of a canvas and then folding it vertically to imprint the other half to produce your own symmetrical work of art. Join Robin Douglas for an introduction to the work of a Pop Art icon, and enjoy drinks and appetizers before completing your own Rorschach-style print. All materials provided.

O’side Murals Walking Tour

The creative spirit unique to the community of Oceanside is on prominent display through its stunning and vibrant collection of outdoor murals. Explore this state-recognized Cultural District through the lens of public art. Join local arts advocate Brigid Parsons for a walking tour that will lead you through the heart of downtown O’side to hear the hidden stories behind the creation of some of its most impressive works of art. As a special perk, participants will also receive free admission to OMA for the day.

SmallTalk: Symbolism And Meaning, Author And Audience

In a multi-year collaboration, OMA curated a distinctive collection of art for the recently opened Mission Pacific Hotel and The Seabird Resort in downtown Oceanside. Join special project director, OMA co-curator, and visual artist Rebecca Webb to learn more about this project as she engages in a roundtable discussion with artists Einar De La Torre, Annalise Neil, and Margaret Noble. Learn about the artwork featured by each of these artists on display at both sites and their unique ability to create meaning through visual storytelling and symbolism. Through this conversation, we will explore their creative processes, contributions as artists, and shared outlook on the powerful relationship art can forge between author and audience.
