Kick off your weekend with a bite-sized happy hour version of our renowned Studio Arts workshops. Gather with friends in an artistic space designed to amplify your creative side. Join arts educator Robin Douglas, as we dip our toes into the work of celebrated artists over drinks and nibbles, followed by a rapid demonstration of their styles. You’ll then be guided to interpret these artists and create your own singular, spectacular work of art. We’ll help you express your unique style and ensure you have a blast doing it. All levels of experience are encouraged to participate. OMA provides food, drinks, and supplies; all you have to do is get yourself out of work, grab your friends, and have fun!


Members $50, Visitors $65

Taste of Art | The Colors of Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin: Impressions of the Tropics

Van Gogh and Gauguin broke the rules of the art world with their vibrant discordant colors and their thick application of paint. Their work inspired future artists. Now let these French Post Impressionists inspire your paintings of various landscapes, both Tahitian tropical and South of France Mediterranean.

Studio Arts with Robin Douglas | All that glitters IS gold: Gilded inspiration with Gustav Klimt and Takashi Murakami

Gold creates an aura of elegance and decadence, paint your own opulent masterpiece using Gustave Klimt and Takashi Murakami as inspiration. Slightly abstract to fantastic imagery, floral patterns, and swirling brushstrokes will complete our compositions. Join Robin Douglas for this all-day immersion starting with art slides for inspiration, light snacks, and art making.


What is Studio Arts?


Join us every other month for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas. Inspired by world-renowned artists, and practicing artists with exhibitions at OMA, you will explore different media, techniques, and subjects found in an artist’s studio. This full day workshop held from 10:00am-3:00pm is meant to get you in the art-making groove and develop new approaches to seeing and creating artwork. Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us. All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. A break for lunch and a relaxed discussion will occur midday.

Studio Arts with Robin Douglas | Color and Movement: A day long obsession with Claude Monet and Joan Mitchell

Swirling colors and brushstrokes are the hallmark of both artists’ work. Pure motion, depth, and mark-making will be the focus of this studio. Explore the combination of Claude Monet’s swirling colors and almost abstract waterlilies and Joan Mitchell’s expressive and energetic brushstrokes in this month’s studio. Work on large canvases with acrylic paints to create your masterpiece of mark-making with motion and depth.


Members $70, Visitors $100.

Exhibition Celebration

Join us for an evening of art and drinks as we celebrate the opening of our five exhibitions. Encounter saucy suits, mesmerizing raw materials, a perspective shift on pigment, and the tension between imagination and reality, past and present. Connect with fellow artists, curators, and the community as you explore the art and stories of Southern California artists.

First Free Sunday | Community Art Day: Mardi Gras Masquerade with Studio ACE

Kick off 2023’s Community Art Days at OMA with our February partner: Studio ACE! We’re bringing a bit of New Orleans to Oceanside. Get in the O’side Mardi Gras spirit with magical mask making. Decorate your own disguise with feathers and jewels and glitter to wear this Fat Tuesday. Take a tour through the exhibitions for inspiration then join OMA and Studio ACE staff under the tents where they will guide you through the activity. Community Art Day is FREE and open to the whole family, and includes all supplies, just bring your imagination!! We hope to see you there! This is a drop-in event. Feel free to come at any time and plan to spend 30-40 minutes in the workshop. It is open to all ages but children must be accompanied by an adult.
