Event Details

Join us at Oceanside Museum of Art for a hands-on relief printing workshop on Sunday, April 12, from 2:00–5:00pm. Guided by artist and educator Frol Boundin, Associate Faculty for Art at MiraCosta College, you’ll learn about the tools and step-by-step processes of relief printing, carve postcard-sized linoleum blocks, and print on an etching press using traditional relief inks. Bring your own simple drawing to use as inspiration for your block prints! All materials are included in the workshop fee, and no prior experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to get a little messy.
This workshop is inspired by OMA’s Matrix Multiplied: Hybrid Approaches to Printmaking exhibition, exploring the dynamic world of printmaking and the idea of the “matrix”—the surface from which multiple prints are created. The exhibition highlights how artists use printmaking techniques to produce repeated images while experimenting with variation, layering, and color. Relief printing is one of the most iconic methods of printmaking, making it a perfect entry point into the themes of the exhibition.
