Event Details

Beginning and experienced artists will play, relax, and have fun with shapes, lines, patterns, and textures while learning about color usage, focal points, balance, and composition. This workshop blends concrete guidelines with creativity and passion. View abstracts by known artists and learn how abstract art can stem from realism or from pure shape and color. Experiment with both random placement and conscious manipulation. Specific projects will be worked on in class. You may also bring your own projects to work on (with individual attention from Linda) to improve color, composition, and the professional appearance of your work. Different material will be covered in Workshop I and Workshop II, and Workshop I is not a prerequisite for II, register for either or both. Supply list (some materials can be supplied, but you may still want to bring your own):
  • Paint—watercolors and/or acrylics
  • Dry media—soft chalk, oil pastels, markers, color pencils
  • Collage materials—assorted papers, photographs, magazines, fabric, feathers, etc.
  • Scissors, pencils, brushes
Students should bring their own:
  • Adhesives—rubber cement, Mod Podge, or acrylic medium
  • Paper or art pad (any size is fine, suggest 11" x 14"), for a collage support 120 lb paper or heavier is best
