Under Alien Seas: An Artist’s Conception of Life That May Exist Beyond Our Planet

UNDER ALIEN SEAS: AN ARTIST'S CONCEPTION OF LIFE THAT MAY EXIST BEYOND OUR PLANET

June 30–July 28, 2012

In Lobby

Installed on the ceiling and floor of the OMA Lobby, this exhibit of organic light sculptures mimics the fantastical creatures that live underwater. Informed by their interest in bioluminescence, the possibility of life on other planets and underwater scientific expeditions, William Leslie, along with his apprentices Alessandra Colfi and Nathan Harrenstein and in collaboration with LED lighting specialists, Chris and Lisa Isaacson, created a unique series of light sculptures crafted from thin strips of wood covered with paper soaked in polyvinyl resin and internally lit.
