Exhibition Reception

Sip, nosh, and mingle with artists and fellow art lovers as OMA celebrates the opening of two new exhibitions.

OMA members at the President’s Circle level and above are invited to arrive at 5:00pm for a special opportunity to meet featured artists, curators and collectors one-on-one before the reception opens at 6:00pm.

Lecture: How To Read A Painting

Robin Douglas will demystify Modern Art while using visual artists’ vocabulary to describe intent and content. Begin to understand and appreciate the art of the new.

Beading Class

Lisa Yoder will teach students the basics of beading on fiber by creating a one–of–a–kind greeting card or small art quilt.

The class will begin by looking at a few examples of hand–stitched and hand–beaded art quilts. Then, a discussion on the basic supplies used for beading and a demonstration on the proper way to secure a bead onto fiber. The rest of the class time will be spent beading!

Basic Beading Kit: $15. This kit will be available for purchase at the class.

A student who does not want to purchase the kit should bring the following supplies:
beading needle
black and white beading thread (two small spools)
3.5″ x 5″ fabric “sandwich” (front, batting, backing) of your choice
several scoops of beads to complete your small project
beading pad
white or off–white greeting card with envelope (if the student wants to make a card out of her/his work)

Paper Tiles

Artist Bhavna Mehta will explore symmetry and how to balance large and small shapes within the small format of a single tile, and how to cut and layer paper to create colorful tiles. All materials included.

A Taste Of Art: French Impressionists

Join Robin Douglas for wine and appetizers while exploring the influences, history, and techniques of the French Impressionists. This hands-on workshop will have you producing a petite Impressionist painting of your own. All supplies included.

Fiber Art Workshop

Robin Douglas will explore on- and off-loom weaving techniques with students ages 15 to adult using natural dyes and materials. Wall hangings along with a variety of practical applications will be produced in this two-day workshop.

Materials list:
Bring a variety of wool or cotton yarns, strings, fabric scraps, and natural fibers.

Creative Kids: Color

Parents can explore the exhibitions while kids ages 2–5 learn about how artists choose colors in the classroom with instructor Corinna Stocker and paint a picture, move to the music, and read stories.
