Trinh Mai: A Time To Heal

In partnership with MiraCosta College Veterans Services, Mai will work with local war veterans on a collaborative and socially engaging fine art project. With a mission to harness creativity in the process of documenting veterans’ stories, the artist and veterans will create biographical mixed media works that touch on themes of memory, resilience, and healing. Check back for program specifics.

Mixed Media Sculpture

Altered objects, space, light, shadows and reflections will be the emphasis in creating 3-D objects. Robin Douglas will explore creativity and make connections with workshop participants to expand students’ unique visual language in the round. Artistic Inspiration: Louise Nevelson.

Supplies needed: Found objects, lights or lighting, reflective material, objects that cast unique shadows. Many supplies will also be provided.

A Taste Of Art: Georgia O’Keefe

Channel Georgia O’Keefe’s focus on nature and beauty during a brief presentation by Robin Douglas that begins with appetizers and beverages. Then create your own serene painting during the engaging hands-on workshop based on the practices of the mother of American Modernism.
All supplies are provided.

Artist Talk With Trinh Mai, Presented By The Artist Odyssey

After screening a short film on Trinh Mai, the artist will discuss influences, challenges, and inspirations that have shaped her creative journey, followed by a question and answer session. The Artist Odyssey is a global network of filmmakers documenting the world’s artists. Free for OMA members to attend.

A Taste Of Art: Leroy Neiman

Thursday, February 9, 6:00–8:00pm Members $35, Visitors $45 Enjoy appetizers, beverages, and a brief presentation by Robin Douglas showcasing Neiman’s art work and then create your own splashy and exuberant painting with an explosion of colors. All supplies provided.

Art Making With Non-Traditional Materials

Using a variety of found and manufactured materials students will create multi-scaled objects. Printing, drawing, folding, painting, up-cycling, stitching, knotting, will be used in non traditional ways in group and individual exercises led by Robin Douglas. Inspiration will be drawn from the current exhibits at OMA and the artist El Anatsui.

Supplies needed:
Any materials, media, multiples, non-toxic objects that you have on hand. Many supplies will also be provided.
