Off The Wall is a conversation series that brings together community leaders, artists, and curators to engage in discussions about current affairs affecting the creative health and well-being of our region, both now and in the future. In this series, we explore the museum’s role in uniting art and community to champion culture. Part moderated conversation, part audience participation, every discussion aims to bring art off the walls and into our daily lives.
Featuring the lead curator of Transformative Currents Cassandra Coblentz, exhibition artist Fran Siegel, LA Times environmental reporter Rosanna Xia, and OMA’s Director of Exhibitions and Collections Katie Dolgov, the focus of this round-table discussion will be on the impact of sea level rise on Southern California’s art community and how science and art can bring awareness and enact change.

Off The Wall | The Impact of Representation
Off The Wall is a conversation series between artists, curators, and other community leaders to discuss current exhibitions and the subjects the artists explore. Part moderated conversation, part audience participation, we take the art off the walls and into our everyday lives.
Join us for a conversation on July 25 focused on the exhibition Undocumented Times / Queer Yearnings, where four community leaders will explore critical issues impacting queer undocumented immigrants in Southern California. Featuring artist Alexa Vasquez, her artwork in the Undocumented Times / Queer Yearnings exhibition draws from her journey as a queer undocumented woman to create an inclusive gallery space that resonates with both immigrant and arts communities. Join us as we highlight Alexa’s experiences as well as those of Curator Liliana Ramirez and North County LGBTQ Center Immigration Advocate Ines Delgado in a conversation moderated by OMA’s satellite gallery coordinator Natalie Gonzalez to explore how the world is changing for artists of many backgrounds. This community conversation invites us to imagine how the representation of undocuqueer creatives can impact the future of the art community.

Off The Wall | How is the world changing for artists?
As our 2023/24 Artist Alliance Biennial exhibition comes to a close we are bringing together Artist Alliance Co-Chair Emeritus and photographer Larry Vogel, Artist Alliance Biennial Exhibition Grand Prize award winner, painter, and former Disney animator Marshall Toomey, and Professor of Art at Mira Costa College and installation artist, Xuchi Naungayan Eggleton to discuss how the world is changing for artists. Moderated by OMA’s Director of Exhibitions and Collections Katie Dolgov, this conversation invites community leaders to engage with the audience and think about what a career as an artist might look like, how one defines success, and how new tools are shaping what we understand art to be.
Off The Wall is a conversation series that brings community leaders together with artists and curators to discuss current affairs which impact the health and well being of our region now and in the future. Artists often exist at the forefront of societal change, reflecting the mood of the current moment and trends, innovating towards change, and bringing challenging concepts to light. In this series, we look at the role the museum has in bringing art and community together to be champions of culture. Part moderated conversation, part audience participation, we take the art off the walls and into our everyday lives.
