Two-Day Workshop: California By Richard Diebenkorn

Diebenkorn, a painter who deconstructed imagery like Mondrian, used the color of Matisse and applied his paint in the style of De Kooning. Large, luxurious, and mysterious paintings that create atmosphere are his trademarks. Robin Douglas will explore the combination and application of many styles to create unique paintings. The skills of August Renoir, Henri Matisse, Thomas Hart Benton, Stuart Davis, and Jacob Lawrence will be studied and applied to a variety of subject matter and materials. Dance At OMA

After collecting audience responses to VALYA: SHE during three work-in-progress sessions at OMA, Alyssa Junious of Continuum will present her final dance work on the final day of the exhibition. This promises to be a wonderful send-off for the much-loved installation. Come for the dance, stay for the conversation afterward.

Junious graduated from Oceanside High School before attending UC Irvine where she earned a BFA in dance. She is a community influencer who creates work aimed at engaging audiences to see themselves reflected in the artwork.

Dance At OMA

May through July, Alyssa Junious of Continuum will be creating movement in conversation with the exhibition VALYA: SHE. During three work-in-progress events, Junious will solicit and incorporate audience response to her finished work, which will be presented in full on Sunday, July 7. The last opportunity to join in the creation process of this new work will happen during First Friday Art Walk on Friday, June 7, 5:30-7:00pm, Junious will be working with two new dancers around the issues of age, time, and family. Come be a part of creating this exciting new community project. Admission is free during the public input session, as well as for the final presentation in July.
