First Free Sunday: Community Art Day with Studio Ace

In partnership with Studio ACE, join us on Sunday, August 7 from 12:00-2:00pm to celebrate the art of Gail Roberts! Create your own flower with watercolor, paper, bugs and butterflies! This family friendly event is FREE along with admission to the museum. All materials will be supplied and no experience is necessary. Just bring your imagination! Healthy snacks included!

Virtual Reality Experience with the Exhibition Creators: Limit of Your Safe Space

Dive into a virtual reality experience with artist Shinpei Takeda and the workshop participants who worked with him to create the exhibition Limit of Your Safe Space, on view at OMA through September 10. After a brief orientation with the Oculus VR headset and hand controllers, explore the virtual space with the artists as your guides while learning more about their journeys and sharing your own experiences.

Please arrive promptly! You may not be able to have a full experience if you are more than five minutes late and we may not be able to reschedule.

ss2255ss: Currently Resides in Düsseldorf, Germany; Originally from Irbil, Iraq; Immigrated 5 years ago
Currently living in temporary housing for refugees, he has not yet received official immigration status from the German government, and continues to extend his temporary status. He was injured from gun violence in the northern Kurdistan region of Iraq, resulting in total paralysis of both legs. In his free time he creates small architectural models.

Rock55: Currently Resides in Carlsbad, CA; Originally from Jalisco, Mexico; Immigrated 25 years ago
As a child in Jalisco, Mexico, she would pick chillies to earn extra money for her textbooks. Paperwork processing took 10 years before her father was officially able to bring his family to resettle in the US. Three years after coming to the US, she saw the attacks on September 11, 2001 as a teenager and she felt the urge to do something to help. She joined the army as a bridge engineer as soon as she turned 18. She was deployed to Iraq and has strong memories of being in the watchtower. She has spent many years recovering from PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.

GCAP: Currently Resides in Treviso, Italy; Originally from Bintang, Gambia; Immigrated in 2017
Leaving Gambia at a young age, he travelled the long distance by himself to the Mediterranean Sea, where he crossed in an inflatable boat to Lampedusa, Italy. He eventually resettled in Treviso, Italy (near Venice). He still has not received official residency status, so the only work available to him is manual labor. He is a member of the non-profit organization IntegraART.

8348: Currently Resides in New Jersey; Originally from Peru; Immigrated in the early 1990s
Born in Huancayo, Peru, her father was an investigative police and was on a hit list by guerrilla groups. Because of this, her family resettled in the United States, illegally at first and eventually obtaining citizenship. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, she felt the need to fight against terrorism and joined the US Marine Corps and was deployed to Iraq the following year. She says “she didn’t know who her enemy was,” and has since started a non-profit organization that provides art-making workshops for veterans.

Explore the exhibitions and stay for the music as Oceanside’s First Friday Art Walk extends into the night at OMA with Singer / Songwriter Jonny Tarr and his Quintet A winner of the 2020 San Diego Music Award for Best Pop Artist, Tarr describes himself as a left of center maverick and musical rogue. Heavily influenced by “music that makes people dance,” The Jonny Tarr Quintet has headlined the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show’s D’Angelico Stage and been part of the opening act for the Pink Floyd Experience.

Explore the exhibitions and stay for the music as Oceanside’s First Friday Art Walk extends into the night at OMA with vocalist Leonard Patton. Patton has been a force in the jazz scene for many years both locally in San Diego as well as around the country. Leonard’s sound has been described as “soothing to the soul” and he has performed and recorded with many world class musicians including, Peter Sprague, Antonio Sanchez, Geoffrey Keezer, and most recently, with multi Grammy-award-winning jazz guitar legend, Pat Metheny.

Explore the exhibitions and stay for the music as Oceanside’s First Friday Art Walk extends into the night at OMA with two time San Diego Music Award winner, Taryn Donath. Taryn Donath and drummer Matthew Taylor run the gamut from 60’s soul to jazz and swing, to funk and Latin to straight up boogie-woogie! These talented performers demonstrate their chemistry through improvisation and true spontaneity.

Taryn has been described as “not your typical piano player, putting everything she has into her piano playing while belting it out with a smile!”

Art Auction 2022 VIP Reception

This VIP Reception will launch bidding on over 80 artworks in OMA’s 2022 Art Auction. Be the first to acquire your favorite pieces before the virtual silent auction opens up to the general public, and secure the work you must have by having first access to the Buy It Now option. The event will also include exclusive Live Auction lots only available to event attendees. Complimentary cocktails and elevated hors d’ oeuvres will be served.


Bidding closes at 5:00 pm, Sunday, August 1. This event benefits OMA’s Exhibition Fund.  Artists receive a portion of the proceeds

Auction artwork will be on view at OMA in the Preview Exhibition June 18 through August 1, 2022, during regular museum hours. Work can also be viewed online for those not near enough to view in person, and all bidding on silent auction lots will take place through a virtual bidding platform.

First Free Friday with Music At The Museum: Daring Greatly

Explore the exhibitions and stay for the music as Oceanside’s First Friday Art Walk extends into the night at OMA with Daring Greatly – a heartland rock and soul band offering stunningly soulful originals, and a broad repertoire of cover songs. Renowned for their brotherly harmonies, siblings Patrick Croome (acoustic guitar and vocals) and Liam Croome (Nord organ and piano), form the heart of the five-piece ensemble, Daring Greatly. Their high energy performances present a blend of Canadian rock and roll with American folk traditions from the 1960s and 70s. With over 1,000 shows seasoning their sound, Daring Greatly rises to the surface with the Croome brothers and additional members David Mills on guitar, Matt Spatol on bass and Brayden Tario on drums.
