Taste of Art | Art Making with Montage/Collage/Assemblage

With a vast variety of materials, photographs, and accessories, eclectic yet cohesive art objects will be composed and constructed. Flat or three-dimensional, mobiles or stay-biles, many options will be presented for you to complete your own unique work of art.

Join arts educator Robin Douglas, as we dip our toes into the work of celebrated artists over drinks and nibbles, followed by a rapid demonstration of their styles. You’ll then be guided to interpret these artists and create your own singular, spectacular work of art. We’ll help you express your unique style and ensure you have a blast doing it.
All levels of experience are encouraged to participate. OMA provides food, drinks, and supplies; all you have to do is get yourself out of work, grab your friends, and have fun!

Taste of Art | White on White Paintings and Sculpture

Only using white paint, paper, and/or other white materials this art experience will explore the power of non-color in Art. The cast shadows, actual and implied textures, and material intersections in these compositions will be the dynamic focal points. Create your own pristine white-on-white art piece.

Taste of Art | Inspired Mexican Fluorescent Paintings on Tree Bark

The bright and vibrant colors of folkloric Mexico will be used on authentic tree bark to create images of whimsical plants and animals. Black ink outlines will complete these precocious works of Art.

Exhibition Celebration | Allied Craftsmen of San Diego, Coastal Exposure, Ving Simpson

Taste of Art | Subtractive Charcoal Drawing

Da Vinci used this method to create very 3-D images. In this art-making experience, we will use this “reverse” method to bring about high and low-contrast subject matter. A variety of colors of charcoal and drawing tools will be provided along with still lives.

Studio Arts with Robin Douglas | Hieroglyphic Paintings inspired by Lee Krasner’s Little Images

Cut and paste, arrange, and reassemble discarded paintings into grid-like compositions to create precious and almost readable images. Bring in any artwork that should be revitalized in this studio. Join Robin Douglas who will provide extra paintings to manipulate, backgrounds, and glue. Light snacks will also be provided.

Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us. All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. In “What is the Color of Love” Richard Mayhew has a sense of color like no other artist. People feel color and in this studio, we will complete a series of color theory exercises before completing our own unique painting to invoke emotion.
