Travel To The Broad
Travel via luxury coach from OMA to The Broad in downtown Los Angeles—a new contemporary art museum founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad. The museum is home to 2,000 works of art in the Broad collection, which is among the most prominent holdings of postwar and contemporary art worldwide.
After touring The Broad, there will be ample time to have lunch on your own at the museum or other nearby eatery as well as venture to other venues such as Disney Concert Hall, Museum of Contemporary Art, LA Central Library, and Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels—all within walking distance.
Visit The Broad online for a mobile app to download for an audio tour. The Broad does not have docent tours.
Full cost for the day trip is $55 for OMA members and $70 for visitors.
Trip departs at 8:30am from OMA. Anticipated return time is 5:00pm, subject to traffic.
Space is limited and this trip is almost sold out. Contact Wendi Sweeney to register for this outing, wendi@oma-online.org or (760) 435-3728.

Distinguished Lecture Series: Van Gogh’s Sunflowers
Vincent Van Gogh lived and painted in the South of France for only a few years, yet created some of his most important work there—including his sunflower paintings. Originally created as decorations for his studio, we trace the history of the sunflower paintings, including one that was destroyed by a World War II bomb, and its rediscovery in a long uncovered photograph.
Lecturer: Julia Fister
Distinguished Lecture Series: Walter Ufer, Taos Pueblo, And The Colonial “Gaze”
Between 1914 and 1918, Walter Ufer differentiated himself artistically from other artists of the day by painting Native American subjects gazing out directly, even defiantly, at the (presumably) Euro-American viewer. Ufer’s paintings from this time are unsettling because the “gaze” emphasized that Ufer’s subjects, Pueblo Indians from Taos, New Mexico, were real people rather than romantic fictions, and that the paintings themselves were artificial spaces created by the artist.
