Discover a creative approach to avoiding burnout and reclaiming your well-being through this transformative four-week, in-person workshop.
Led by Lea Seigen Shinraku—a licensed therapist, group facilitator, Zen practitioner, and lifelong artist. This series draws on her 18+ years of professional experience combined with science-based self-compassion practices. Rooted in the healing arts and visual creativity, Lea offers a warm, grounded approach that welcomes participants exactly as they are.
In this workshop, you will: learn to recognize the warning signs of burnout before they take hold; discover core self-compassion principles and how to apply them in daily life; explore gentle, effective self-care strategies rooted in current research on burnout, creativity, and the body's stress-response cycle; practice self-compassion in a playful, creative, and embodied way; receive step-by-step art journaling guidance, experiential teaching and group discussion; create your own personalized self-care plan: your Beyond Burnout guide, a practical tool to help you avoid burnout and respond to difficult moments (personal and professional) with greater kindness, creativity, and resilience.
No art experience is necessary. These simple, accessible creative practices are truly about the heart, not artistic skill.
Students are responsible for purchasing their own materials: watercolor set (you can choose the palette you prefer!) and mixed media paper or pad (any watercolor pad of a similar size with approximately 30 pages works well).

Caregiving and healthcare work present unique demands that often lead to burnout. For healthcare professionals, prioritizing self-care isn't just important, it's an ethical imperative. When you integrate effective self-care strategies into your everyday routine, you not only prevent burnout ~ you also reduce the likelihood of professional impairment.
Learning objectives for healthcare professionals: describe the three components of self-compassion; describe three benefits to practicing self-compassion; list the three components of burnout; apply learning about burnout and self-care as an ethical imperative to reduce the likelihood of professional impairment; discuss the importance of completing the stress response cycle as a way to avoid burnout; list two current research studies on the effects and effectiveness of creative practice in managing stress.
