Join us for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas.
Inspired by world renowned artists, you will explore different media, techniques and subjects found in an artist’s studio. After a brief slide presentation for inspiration and context the session will continue with demonstrations.
“Colorful Matisse Cut Paper Collages and Paintings”
This full day workshop held from 10:00am to 2:00pm is meant to get you in the art making groove and develop new approaches to seeing and creating artworks. Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us.
All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. A break for lunch and relaxed discussion will occur midday. Please bring your own bagged lunch or feel free to visit one of the restaurants close by on our provided list.

Join us for an Exclusive Artist Talk and Swell Plate Tasting at OMA where visual and culinary arts combine!
Through a dynamic blend of artist insight, exhibition exploration, and immersive culinary creativity, you will experience OMA like never before.
Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, 6:00PM–7:30PM PST | Oceanside Museum of Art, 704 Pier View Way, Oceanside, CA 92054

During the exclusive tour and artist talk with Francisco Eme through his exhibition Francisco Eme: Future Rituals & La eco-resistencia, blending ancestral knowledge, science, and contemporary media to invite a slower, reverent reconnection with animals, urban ecology, and the spiritual forces of nature within and beyond the city. You will hear the impactful stories behind his stunning works and see the pieces on display in a new light. Then it’s on to the tasting, where you will meet 24Suns Co-Founder and Chef Nicholas Webber to enjoy a sample of the Swell Plates dish inspired by Francisco’s exhibition that will deepen your connection to the themes uncovered in his work. The tasting pairs smoked pork rib with local wahoo shaped into a T-bone form. A fermented fennel “souherb” made from foraged coastal herbs ties the elements together, creating a reflection on balance, ecology, and Oceanside’s natural landscape.

Kick off your weekend with a bite-sized happy hour version of our renowned Studio Arts workshops. Gather with friends in an artistic space designed to amplify your creative side.
Join arts educator Robin Douglas, as we dip our toes into the work of celebrated artists over drinks and nibbles, followed by a rapid demonstration of their styles. You’ll then be guided to interpret these artists and create your own singular, spectacular work of art. We’ll help you express your unique style and ensure you have a blast doing it.
O’Keefe and the Exploded View
O’Keeffe’s paintings continue to inspire contemporary art making. Come and explore her sense of color and expanded compositions. Paint an exploded view of a natural object. Paintings will be large and loose, in natural and abstracted colors.
All levels of experience are encouraged to participate. OMA provides food, drinks and supplies; all you have to do is get yourself out of work, grab your friends, and have fun!

MEET ART INSTRUCTOR ROBIN DOUGLAS
Robin Douglas moved full time to Oceanside in 2015 from her distinguished career at the University of Illinois. As an art professor for 36 years, she has experience in many materials and techniques. She served as associate director of the school of art & design, art education chair, faculty senator, chancellors honors faculty, served on the board of the Spurlock Museum, Krannert Art Museum Council, and the Urbana Arts Council. She was ranked excellent by her students, awarded teaching awards, and is still considered a distinguished faculty member. Her commissioned artwork is in private collections, offices, hotels, and university buildings.
