Eurythmy: The dance of colors
march 28–june 26, 2023
OMA WEST AT THE SEABIRD
Curated By Natalie Gonzalez
"The word eurythmy has its roots in ancient Greek, related to the concepts of rhythmical order and balance. Artwork inspired by this concept is known for showing expressive and harmonious movement. Often experienced through poetry and music, making language and music visible, the idea of eurythmy can also be found in our actions and in our surroundings–architecture, sculpture, art, dance, and the natural world. It could be seen as an act of making an atmosphere of beauty and harmony visible, an objective representation of the totality of human expression.
Presenting artwork exclusively by artists represented in the Seabird Resort and Mission Pacific’s art collection, this exhibition explores vibrant movements, expressions, and rhythms inspired by life and captured in color. Visitors can feel a rhythm through fun textures, different mediums, and bold marks. Featured artists include Michael James Armstrong, Nolan Cooley, Ellen Dieter, Polly Jacobs Giacchina, Joseph Hwang, Nikko Mueller, and Julia San Román.
Take a moment to find pleasure in the experience, letting worries about daily life drift away. Eurythmy invites visitors to remember the wonderful parts of life and envision the joy we can achieve in the here and the now. In the small things, in the grandeur, or in the simple things–through a smile, a walk, a word, a chord, a color, or a smell. Let’s make fun visible."
