Taste of Art Workshop | Ocean Landscapes

Kick off your weekend with a bite-sized happy hour version of our renowned Studio Arts workshops.

Ocean Landscapes

Using a variety of wet media we will capture the energetic movement of the ocean on canvas.

All levels of experience are encouraged to participate. OMA provides food, drinks, and supplies; all you have to do is get yourself out of work, grab your friends, and have fun!

Studio Arts Workshop | “Luminosity in Paintings”

Join us for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas.

In this studio create iridescent paintings that effectively glow with sunlight, moonlight and/or electricity. Explore unique color sensibilities. New materials and processes are introduced every month. All materials included. Drinks and light snacks provided.

A break for lunch and a relaxed discussion will occur at midday. Please bring your own bagged lunch or feel free to visit one of the restaurants close by on our provided list.

Transformative Currents Catalog Launch and Closing Celebration

Be among the first to own the Transformative Currents catalog. This pivotal publication documents the work of exhibiting artists as well as research presented at the 2022 Seachange Symposium, which preceded and paved the way for the exhibition in examining art’s potential to enact positive ecological change in the Pacific Ocean. Authors, curators, artists, and publisher X Artists Books’ will be in attendance to sign catalogs and join visitors in raising a toast to the final weeks of the exhibition’s presentation at OMA.

Workshop with Ana Andrade | PST ART Regional Weekend – San Diego

OMA invites our community to a free, drop-in art-making experience for all levels as part of the November 23-24 PST Regional Weekend – San Diego. Engage with Transformative Currents artist Ana Andrade for a special “microworlding” workshop.

Microworlding facilitates the building of a microscopic world using fragments of earth, and organic and inorganic materials from the environment around the region. Engaging with a different dimension that generates a sensorial experience, the attendants will make decisions, imagine possibilities, touch nature, see with another lens (4x – 10x larger) develop images with a microscope, and use their fingers (or tweezers if needed) to create their own sample tube. With this hands-on workshop, people will perform “studies” of a superorganism (which is planet earth) to make collages mixing the chosen samples and paint landscapes of a microworld.

Workshop with Marcos Lutyens | PST ART Regional Weekend – San Diego

OMA invites our community to a free, drop-in art-making experience for all levels as part of the November 23-24 PST Regional Weekend – San Diego. Engage with Transformative Currents artist Marcos Lutyens on the 23rd. Lutyens’ artwork includes installations, sculptures, drawings, films, writings, and performances. He envisions consciousness to be the sole common denominator of experience in a sea of environmental, social and technological change, and places his artistic efforts at that point of convergence.

In this workshop, participants will be guided through a brief meditation before modeling clay into oceanic forms that they visualize.

Workshop with Jane Chang Mi | PST ART Regional Weekend – South Bay/Orange County/North San Diego

OMA invites our community to a free, drop-in art-making experience for all levels as part of the November 2 PST ART Regional Weekend – South Bay/Orange County/North San Diego.  Engage with Transformative Currents artist Jane Chang Mi. This workshop seeks to re-indigenize participants: departing from the museum and taking place at the Pacific Ocean just down the street, participants will build and paddle a sand canoe and consider the ocean as ancestor.
