Using existing books as the basis for our art-making, we will reorganize, reconstruct, paint, and give new and exciting meaning to the original object. Bring in any book or printed material or choose from our collection to manipulate and mount a manuscript. Join Robin Douglas with all materials provided along with light snacks.

Join us every other month for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas. Inspired by world-renowned artists, and practicing artists with exhibitions at OMA, you will explore different media, techniques, and subjects found in an artist’s studio. This full-day workshop held from 10:00am-3:00pm is meant to get you in the art-making groove and develop new approaches to seeing and creating artwork. Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us. All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. A break for lunch and a relaxed discussion will occur at midday. Please bring your own bagged lunch or feel free to visit one of the restaurants close by on our provided list.

Studio Arts with Robin Douglas | Aerial Views inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe and Richard Diebenkorn

Both of these artists were inspired by their first plane rides to paint aerial views in abstract styles. Join Robin Douglas to compose and paint mesmerizing and unusual views of landscapes from a Birds Eye view. All materials are included along with light snacks.

So many artists used themselves as models in a variety of ways. Create any part of yourself at any age, real or imaginary in this studio. We will create a likeness of all or parts of ourselves with many materials to choose from. Bring in photographs to work from for preliminary work. Join Robin Douglas with all materials provided and light snacks in this studio workshop.

Thick, tactile, multi-leveled layers of paint will be used to construct a visually stunning painting. Shimmering contrasts with high and low relief in diptych form will be created. Join Robin Douglas with all supplies provided along with light snacks.

Studio Arts with Robin Douglas | Life Drawing with Models in Exotic Costumes

Join Robin Douglas to draw from a live model, first by concentrating on human proportions and then using a variety of materials to create a figure in an exotic costume in a constructed environment-Matisse style. All art materials will be provided along with light snacks.

Plein Air Paint Out with Artist Alliance at Sea Hive

Bring your painting supplies, easel, and canvases, and meet with OMA Artist Alliance Group Leader, Andrew Johnson, to check-in. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat for the California sun! Paint to your heart’s content and enjoy the dynamic surroundings of Oceanside’s urban and natural landscape at Sea Hive Marketplace.
