CAPITAL CAMPAIGN SURGES TO $2.6 MILLION PASSING HALF-WAY MARK “It was an historic moment and a stunning demonstration of support for OMA.” -------------------------------------------------------------- Mary Rombotis, President -------------------------------------------------------------- Board of Trustees On July 24th, the evening of the elegant Museum Ball, I was pleased to announce that OMA is moving steadily toward its 2005 groundbreaking for the museum expansion. The museum will soon grow from 5,000 square feet to 32,000 square feet creating a shining new cultural landmark for all of Southern California. We had just received a very generous $250,000 gift from the Biogen Idec Foundation that placed the campaign within $69,000 of our $2.5 million half-way mark. I explained that reaching this critical point in the campaign will prove to foundations and corporations considering our grant applications that there is strong community support for the museum and its mission. And, it will put the campaign in the home stretch building great momentum for the finish. I asked the audience to help us raise the $69,000 that night. A time limit of 10 minutes was set for the “mini” pledge drive and pledge cards began pouring up to the dance floor where Museum Treasurer, Bob Pickrel kept a running tally. At the close of the 10 minute period we had raised $180,000 in cash and pledges placing the campaign well past our targeted half-way mark. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all those wonderful donors who came forward that evening and made it such a memorable moment in the history of the museum. Medal of Distinction presented to honorees at the museum ball Randy was the principal founder of the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation, and Founding President of the Oceanside Museum of Art. He was also founder of the Museum School of Art and Oceanside Days of Art. Randy has continued to play an active role in the Oceanside Days of Art and as a member of OMA’s Board of Trustees. Other points of pride in Randy’s long history of community involvement are the establishment of the Antique Printing Museum at Heritage Park and his years as executive director of the Tri-City Hospital Foundation. After 21 years as a Marine Corps officer, Randy founded Mitchell & Associates, the advertising and public relations firm that still keeps him busy. When Randy isn’t working for the Oceanside Museum of Art, he fills his time with the Oceanside Rotary, photography, golf, and collecting Liberty Bells. “Medal of Distinction” honoree Amelia Irvine was a strong supporter of the Oceanside Museum of Art and recently provided a lead gift to the museum capital campaign. She was enthusiastic about the museum expansion and was a familiar figure at OMA’s special events. “Amelia was an elegant woman with a keen sense of style and love of the arts,” said OMA’s executive director, Skip Pahl. An avid traveler she had recently returned from a cultural tour of Cuba with OMA. The Oceanside Museum of Art was one of several of her interests along with the Museum of Making Music, the Mission San Luis Rey and the Carlsbad Library. She was an active art patron who gave both time and money and we honor her memory with the ”Medal of Distinction.” Scrapbook: Masquerade In Color: The Museum Ball Programs | School of Art | Calendar | Museum Store | Newsletters | Membership About OMA | News | Exhibits | Volunteer | Guest Book © 2005 Oceanside Museum of Art Contact Us |
