Regional
Artists Presented at Oceanside Museum of Art
Oceanside Museum of Art presents, OMA Regional 5, the museum’s
fifth juried exhibition of artists from the San Diego region. Three
esteemed jurors selected the work of 21 artists from over 440 works
submitted. The jurors reviewed slides of the artwork that included
drawings, mixed media, paintings, prints and sculpture and chose
the 31 works that comprise the show. Jurors were: Jean Lowe, a member
of the visual arts faculty at University of California, San Diego;
Leah Ollman, a visual arts writer for the Los AngelesTimes
and Art in America; and Tyler Stallings, Director of the
Sweeney Art Gallery established on the University of Riverside campus
and now situated on the UCR ArtsBlock. The OMA Regional 5
is a wonderful way to view a broad scope of styles and techniques
from some of the most talented artists of the region. The exhibition
continues through November 11, 2007.
Curator Irv Simpson states in his introduction to the exhibition,
“the OMA Regional 5 is an example of OMA’s
strong and sustained commitment to the exhibition of regional art
and underscores the museum’s long range vision to emerge as
a premier venue for regional art in Southern California. Exhibitions
such as the OMA Regional 5 enhance the public’s understanding
and appreciation of regional art and help position OMA as the place
to go to experience, understand, and reflect upon the art of San
Diego and Southern California.”
