OMA REGIONAL 5

Oceanside Museum of Art announces its fifth juried exhibition of regional artists, OMA Regional 5, which opens with a preview reception on Sunday, September 23rd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The three esteemed jurors who selected the art from over 440 works submitted are: Jean Lowe, a member of the visual arts faculty at the University of California, San Diego; Leah Ollman, a visual arts writer for the Los Angeles Times and Art in America; and Tyler Stallings, Director of the Sweeney Art Gallery established on the University of Riverside campus and now situated on the UCR ArtsBlock. The jurors reviewed slides of the artwork that included drawings, mixed media, paintings, prints, and sculpture and chose 33 works that comprise the show. The OMA Regional 5 is a wonderful way to view a broad scope of styles and techniques from some of the most talented artists of the region. The exhibition continues through November 11, 2007.

Visitors attending the preview reception on September 23rd will have a chance to meet the artists and ask questions about their work. Most of the artwork is for sale. Admission for the reception is $8 and includes refreshments prepared by OMA’s own Culinary Arts Council. The public is welcome and members of Oceanside Museum of Art attend free as a benefit of membership.

Oceanside Museum of Art is located at 704 Pier View Way in downtown Oceanside. Museum hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays and major holidays. General admission is $5, and $3 for seniors, students, and active military.

FROM THE DIRECTOR:

The OMA Board, Staff and Volunteers have lost a great friend with the recent passing of Doris Groves. Doris started as a volunteer at the reception desk in 1997 and joined the Board of Trustees in 2000. Her art and business expertise were invaluable and her financial support significantly advanced the museum. Doris was one of the first Board members to champion the capital campaign for expansion and in recognition of her generous support to that effort, the permanent collection gallery will be named, “The Groves Gallery.” She was a Medal of Distinction honoree in 2002 and her vision for the future of the museum inspired us all. Doris was known for her astute observations and keen sense of humor. She had a lifetime of tales from her travels and adventures around the world and we miss her deeply.
